Why is one wrong, and the other ok?

Description

There is no excuse for cruelty.
This was a collage made to show something very important, and not often highlighted. The hypocrisy of cruelty. How some things are wrong and even illegal, but if the subject or outcome is different, if there is something to gain (profit, entertainment), then it is not so wrong. Explanations for these photos are listed below. Each one of these photos are real, and display real situations of cruelty. The left column of photos displays very wrong and cruel instances, many now illegal or outdated, the right side shows very recent images of the same cruelty or action, but the subject is different. I focused this collage on cetacean (porpoise, dolphin and whale family) cruelty.

1st Row- A young African American girl is shown on display at a zoo. She is chained and caged like the animals they have elsewhere in the zoo. White visitors feed her bananas like a monkey. On the other side, Bottlenose Dolphins are shown on display at a theme park (SeaWorld's "Dolphin Lagoon"), visitors feed them dead fish. Only one is viewed as wrong and/or cruel, despite it being the exact same situation.
2nd Row- A dog rescued from an illegal dog fight, his injuries are shown. Dog Fighting is illegal, it is a felony charge of animal abuse for each dog, and it is a federal crime. Also shown is an Orca at a theme park (SeaWorld), who suffered a severe injury during a performance. Incompatible and hyper-aggressive orcas are crammed into tiny, non-escapable tanks, when the fight broke out there was no where for this orca to run. SeaWorld claims the injury was not aggressive, and that she hurt herself on the tank, despite clear bite marks visible in the photos taken, and witnesses (the photo is linked below with visible bite marks near the bottom of the wound). Only one of these is punishable and viewed as cruel, despite similar situations. (Not exactly the same, dog fighting forces dogs to fight to the death, while marine parks place aggressive and incompatible animals in tiny areas).
3rd Row- A handful of human victims of the Armenian Holocaust, in which thousands, even millions of humans were killed, similar to the more well known Holocaust involving Hitler. On the other side, a small handful of the thousands of dolphin victims of the insanely cruel Taiji Dolphin Drive Hunts that fuel wild caught cetaceans for marine parks, as well as food (dolphin meat is not widely eaten or popular, and is toxic with mercury, causing disease in humans who ingest it), with no regard for the animals including species population. While the people of the world stopped the Taiji hunts once before, the demand for more captive dolphins for marine parks has re-started them. Public outrage grows for this genocide.
4th Row- Kidnapping of a child is shown. (this particular image is of an experiment, the child shown is not actually being kidnapped). When a child is kidnapped, it causes extreme trauma and grief for the family. It is a heinous crime. Also shown is a wild orca calf, aged at 2 years old, being forcefully abducted, or kidnapped, from his mother. Bombs nets and boats were used to drive pods into coves and separate calves, often resulting in the death of other members. A kidnapper will be sentenced to jail, often times for decades or even life for his crime. This calf was sentenced to life in prison, without committing a crime. Though both are cruel and wrong, only one is punished, only one child comes back home (occasionally, unfortunately not always).
5th Row- Mali, the Asian Elephant, is shown. She resides at Manilla Zoo, who has sentenced her to solitary confinement as punishment for injuring a trainer. She has been alone for 35 years, so lonely she holds her own tail. Elephants are incredibly intelligent and form bonds stronger than even human bonds. Orcas too are incredibly intelligent, with emotional capacity far stronger and more complex than humans. "Lolita" the Southern Resident Orca is shown in her tiny tank (so small it doesn't even meet minimum legal requirements and is not as deep as an average orca is long), alone. She has not seen another orca in 35 years, since her last companion, a male Orca named Hugo, committed suicide. Both suffer extreme depression, boredom, loneliness, and anxiety to the point of severe cruelty and neglect. Public outrage is working hard to save Mali the Elephant in another country, but the law has done little for Lolita, a member of an endangered species (who SHOULD receive protection because of that) who's conditions are in violation of multiple animal welfare laws.
6th Row- A critically endangered Bengal Tiger is shown being forced to preform dangerous and unnatural circus tricks. Circuses worldwide are frowned upon, especially for their cruel methods of training, and keeping of endangered wildlife. Many countries ban circuses from keeping any wild animals, some ban circuses all together. On the other side, a captive dolphin is shown being forced to preform dangerous and unnatural tricks, circus-like in nature. This however, is only just now facing opposition of any size. The tricks cetaceans preform in captivity are not only pointless and unnatural, but they are often responsible for physical injury, sometimes of fetuses (pregnant dolphins still preform) that may result in deformities, injury, or even pre-natal death.

There is no difference and no excuse for cruelty.

I do not take credit for the photography, only manipulation and editing. Links to original photos are display below in order that they are shown in the collage (left to right). This piece may be shared as it is but NOT edited, cropped, or manipulated in ANY way! Unfortunately, I have to watermark my collages, because people take advantage of them and like claiming that they made it. You didn't, I did, so theres a watermark now, sorry.
